Just as George stepped off the cliff, at the very threshold of a new era in human endeavor, in which men would toy with the very forces of nature, where the earth, sea and yea - even the skies were mere stages in the majestic theatre of mankind; just as he did this he made a mental note to take Tibbles to the vet for a de-worming.
