Rail Cycle

Cornelius Q. Giddings was taking a pleasant ride out in the country when suddenly he put two and two together and came up with a brilliant idea.
"Elmes!" he cried, "I've come up with a brilliant idea!"
Elmes had heard his employer utter these words many times before, and replied with thinly disguised skepticism.
"You have sir? Why, that's wonderful! What is it this time? Self-peeling bananas?"
Giddings, embarrassed, fell silent.
Had he become so transparent that a lowly manservant could read his mind?
