It was 1884, the year some would say marked the end of
civilization.
Hemlines were raised by a whopping two inches; to two and a
half inches above ground level.
Just 36 short years later women would be given the vote in
the United States, eight years after that the United Kingdom
also succumbed and before anyone could do anything about it
the twentieth century went to hell in a hand basket.
