Meekham was his own worst enemy.
After the contretemps with Mother over the teacake recipe he had, in his confusion, got on the wrong train at Paddington Station.
One thing had led to another and he now found himself at the South Pole with a team of Norwegians who had decided to ostracize him, even though they didn't even speak English.
